Kalpa, a Society for Promotion of literature, Art, Culture and Social Harmony, will be holding the 11th Pragjyoti International Dance Festival (PIDF) at the Madhavdeva Internatinal Auditorium of Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra on January 31st and February 1.
The festival, replete with performances, film screening, panel discussions on art, music and dance, had been curated with a wider cause of addressing various concerns of dance – its practice and pedagogy, challenges and perspectives, training and research and other issues of social relevance.
This year, the Festival has joined hands with Department of English, Gauhati University and Assam Down Town University.
The curtain-raiser of PIDF will be held from January 5 pm on January 31st, featuring a performance of Pung Cholam by artistes of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal, followed by a Bharatanatyam performance by noted dancer and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Purashkar awardee Lakshmi Parthasarathy Athreya, after which Sangita Chatterjee wil present a Kathak recital.
The evening session of the festival on the opening day will feature invocation by the students of Kalpavrikshya, screening of a Sattriya dance documentary, and a discussion with masters of Sattriya traditions. The concluding day will feature a lecture demonstration session at ADTU at 10 am and panel discussions and performances for dance and music lovers.
